He angitūtanga: The opportunity

The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) department is dedicated to ensuring optimal experiences for our Kaimahi across all systems, tools, and technology. We prioritise delivering innovative and streamlined services while maintaining cyber safety for our people and safeguarding the integrity of our organisation’s information and data.

Our ICT Graduates provide different levels of support concerning ICT issues including problem diagnosis, troubleshooting, triage and projects.

This is a very exciting space to be in with conversations around machine learning and implementation of AI just around the corner!

As our ICT Graduate, you will:

  • Collaborate with our high-performing ICT team to design, develop, test, and deploy solutions.
  • Use your analytical skills to identify and troubleshoot complex ICT issues.
  • Demonstrate the ability to research and evaluate alternative solutions to address diverse ICT problems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to gather requirements, provide updates and feedback.

Throughout our 2-year Graduate Programme, you can expect to engage in on-the-job learning and innovative projects in areas including:

  • Chief Information Security Office that provides the overarching security governance for council.
  • Architecture and Strategy services that include enterprise architecture consultancy, technical governance, and road mapping services.
  • Delivery services that provide the expertise to deliver innovative, customised technology solutions for our businesses.
  • Operational and Infrastructure services that ensure our platforms provide a secure foundation for our applications and data.

Each rotation will provide a healthy mix of on-the-job learning, mentoring from experienced professionals and meaningful work. 

At the end of the programme, you’ll also be supported in securing a permanent role within Auckland Council entities.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You will have a good foundation of ICT skills and the ability to articulate technical concepts and ideas concisely and clearly, both verbally and written. You will be confident in taking initiative and working collaboratively in a team with a strong thirst for learning. 

We welcome applications from graduates in the following disciplines:

  • Computer Science
  • Information Management or related.

You will possess good foundational skills either through your studies, work experience or volunteering. 

To be eligible to apply, you must have the following:

  • Be eligible to work in New Zealand, or be eligible to apply for a Post-Study Work Visa
  • A relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree obtained in January 2023 – January 2025

Have a valid NZ-restricted driver’s license with the ability to obtain a full licence by February 2025
