I got the opportunity to work at the Pitcher Partners’ office in Melbourne for 8 weeks and be a part of the Private Business & Family Advisory (“PBFA”) team.
My role as a secondee was similar to my current role as a Business Advisory Senior back in Auckland. Therefore, I was easily able to apply the skills I learnt from my graduate programme, at Baker Tilly Staples Rodway Auckland, to the work I performed on secondment. In addition, I developed a good understanding of the Australian taxation system which helped me better understand some of the Australian clients I work on back in Auckland. I also was given the opportunity to travel out to client’s premises, sit in on client meetings and work closely on a diverse range of clients e.g. the hotel industry, fruit & vegetable wholesalers, insurance brokers, etc. while on secondment.
I got to meet various other secondees during my time there from the U.K., U.S.A, Canada, and Cyprus offices. I learned about their practices at their respective offices and developed an understanding of the other opportunities that the Baker Tilly network has to offer.
I enjoyed eating out at amazing restaurants, travelling around Melbourne during the weekends, checking out the awesome spots recommended by the locals and made life-long friends from this experience.
