Pros & Cons

  • Work life balance - everyone is respectful of differing working hours and will make sure team members aren't logging off too late.
  • + Flexibility of Work From Anywhere. I'm able to come to the office 2 - 3 days a week and WFH for the rest! + Grad's are given a lot of opportunities to grow and expand their knowledge in their fields as well as collaborate with multiple departments and Business Units
  • People focus is the best value I learned at DuluxGroun
  • Room for flexibility, autonomy, and growth.
  • The people + culture, engaging work, development opportunities and constant investment in your development too
  • Very people focused and supports progression within the company
  • Technology and systems are outdated, and the process to upgrading these are slow
  • Some of management can be set in their ways (not all) making it hard to push through new ideas.
  • The outdated systems and convoluted filing systems How old and far the office is
  • Complicated business structure
  • It is a large company, which has benefits in terms of lots of different job opportunities in the same company, but a minus would be if you do not drive your own development and career goals you can get lost.

Dulux is a large company with many business areas so there are always opportunities for promotion / internal movement. I completed 2 years within the Dulux Graduate Program before an internal opportunity/promotion came up which I was successful in obtaining and moved from Melbourne to Sydney for.

Our Graduate cohort kickstarted the Health & Wellbeing initiative for DuluxGroup in 2021 and this has morphed into a Health & Wellbeing Committee which I am fortunate to be part of.

I have always found the company culture at Dulux to be extremely positive. Everyone is very supportive and approachable regardless of their position within the company.

Diversity
The company has improved their parental leave policy by increasing they Parental leave cover to 20 weeks paid leave and 2 weeks paid for the non-primary career. This also has no restrictions on when it can be taken, so it has become a very inclusive place to work for people starting families. Our department is pretty ethnically diverse and I have not heard of people feeling uncomfortable or discriminated against during hiring.

I enjoy my role because no two days are the same. Working in R&D I get to use my technical knowledge to solve problems and innovate new products. I am responsible for day-to-day maintenance of formulas and get to work with Manufacturing as well as Marketing to develop new products for our customers.

They're great, you just have to also put in the effort to be recognised and not expect things to be handed to you. For me, feedback and recognition have been consistent in comparison to other companies I have worked for. DuluxGroup Graduates also are given Mentors who are usually senior leaders within their department/business unit.

Office Work Environment
Our office and lab space is unique in that the main office / headquarters is right next to the laboratory! This makes it really easy to have meetings with marketing counterparts and meet people from across the wider business. We are also about to go through a large office refurb to update desks and chairs. The dress code is business casual, leaning more towards the casual side if most of your time is spent in the lab, because even with lab coats there is always the chance of getting paint on your clothes.

I've completed the Advanced Paints & Coatings course through the Surface Coatings Association of Australia as well as formal trainings in negotiation, leadership and coaching. We also have a lot of peer driven trainings and workshops in formulation science, data analysis, etc. There is a lot of on-the-job training as well, but we could have a more formal induction program for new starters.

Our efforts are definitely driving towards reducing our footprint and a lot of work has been focused into LCAs of our products. we are continually improving to find greener ways of working in the lab and tracking our lab waste.
