The professional development opportunities Habit provides to upskill their clinicians are amazing! I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to further develop my clinical knowledge through these opportunities.

Describe a typical day

I typically start my day in the office, checking in with emails and clients. Our office is open plan and shared with the rest of the OT team and I enjoy catching up with the team for our morning coffee. After this, it’s normally time to hit the road and go and see some of my clients out in the community. Sessions with clients differ on what contract they are under, but examples are going to the gym with them, doing some graded exposure in the community (such as exposure to noise in cafes), or having an education and planning session. Some days meetings with the MDT are involved, where we catch up as a team about our clients. To end the day, I normally return to the office, catch up with the team, and smash out some reports to send to ACC.

What do you love most about your role?

The three things I love most about my role as an OT at Habit Health are:

  1. The team. I feel so lucky to work with such amazing clinicians.
  2. The positive impact you see that you are making with clients on their rehabilitation journeys.
  3. The professional development opportunities Habit provides to upskill their clinicians are amazing! I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to further develop my clinical knowledge through these opportunities.

What advice would you give incoming graduates? (List three things)

  1. Embrace every learning opportunity that comes your way!
  2. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, we are constantly learning new things on the job.
  3. Take lots of notes! You never know when you might need these again so it's best to be prepared.
