Take your time with patients and don’t be afraid to see them multiple times a week initially to build rapport and encourage adherence/buy-in

Describe a typical day

I often start my day checking my emails or working with patients. If I’m not with a patient, you’ll find me catching up with the team or connecting with other grads to go over tutorials.

In my free time, I’ll be researching cases or during my breaks, smashing out a gym class or going for a swim. Sometimes I even manage to go for a sneaky sauna or spa sesh (living my best life)!

The days always go quick - even if your caseload is low, you will always find something to do.

What do you love most about your role?

Patients making progress or getting better, I really enjoy seeing patients get back to what they love doing and I’ve built some great therapeutic relationships during my time here. Plus, Friday treats (cheese and crackers) are always a good time.

What advice would you give incoming graduates? (List three things)

  1. Take your time with patients and don’t be afraid to see them multiple times a week initially to build rapport and encourage adherence/buy-in
  2. Keep on top of your not seen/discharge list
  3. Focus on your wins, not just your mistakes. You’ll inevitably make mistakes as a new grad and it’s good to have a positive mindset when you’re learning
