There is always a lot of variation to the workday as focus shifts across different stocks under your team’s coverage very quickly, which makes for a highly dynamic and exciting environment.

6.30 AM

Wake up, get ready and head to work.

7.15 AM

Arrive at the office, read the news, and check any emails/outstanding tasks from the previous night.

7.40 AM

Attend the morning meeting where research analysts update the equity sales team on their stocks under coverage. Analysts who have recently published a note on stock will discuss the key points and answer any questions from the sales desk.

8.10 AM

The team goes for a post-morning meeting coffee run.

8.30 AM

Back at the desk and start work. The work we do varies day-to-day but mainly involves financial modeling and helping senior analysts produce new pieces of research.

During reporting season, as companies release their financial results, analysts publish their take on how the company has performed and will update their models to reflect their new forecasts and earning estimates. Analysts will also publish notes regarding any specific developments that could impact the value of a company, such as regulatory changes or M&A deals.

As a junior analyst I may be responsible for synthesising and summarising information from different data sources such as company reports, Bloomberg, Refintiv Eikon, etc. to be included in the note. I will also update the relevant models and data sheets to reflect the latest updates and news flow. Senior analysts also frequently meet with the management teams of their covered companies to get the most timely information for their earnings estimates and reports, so I often attend and take notes on these. In addition, clients may request specific pieces of analysis or models to complete.

12.00 PM

Everyone in the team is very active and big on exercise so I normally go to the gym during my lunch break, which has been so great for me to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

1.00 PM

After lunch, I continue working.

6.00 PM

My typical day finishes around 6.00 pm, which means I still have a lot of time for myself in the evenings.  However, during reporting season (February & August) or if there are any unforeseen news events/developments we will finish up later.
