Amelia Osborn

Mastercard has a bunch of resources to help keep everyone up to speed and there are always training and webinars that you can attend.

6.00 AM

It’s an early wake-up for me this morning as I pack my bag and head to a Pilates class. When I work from home as I do roughly 2 days a week, I’ll go to an 8.00 am class, but today I’m out the door at 6.45 am for a 7 o’clock start.

8.00 AM

After the class, I walk to Central and hop on the train to St Leonard's. Being from Adelaide, I still get excited to see the Opera House (just!) as I pass over the Harbour Bridge on my way to work each day.

8.30 AM

The office is a two-minute walk from the station, so at about 8.30 am I arrive at Mastercard’s Sydney Tech Hub. I use the changing facilities to switch from my gym gear into my office attire, and then pop out to the café next door to grab a coffee and a croissant for breakfast.

9.00 AM

It’s the Tuesday back after Easter break so I spend a while catching up on emails. I’m subscribed to a few newsletters that keep me up to date about what’s going on in the industry. The payments space is constantly evolving so I find I’m always learning which is one of the things I love most about my role. Mastercard has a bunch of resources to help keep everyone up to speed and there are always training and webinars that you can attend. It’s particularly important in my role as part of the Business Development team. We’re responsible for pursuing new opportunities and partners, so awareness of the current landscape is critical.

10.30 AM

I spend time working through some information to be sent over to our PR team to help with an upcoming announcement for some exciting work we’re doing.

12.00 PM

I grab lunch with some of the other grads. I packed my lunch today but can usually be found at the café down the street that does delicious wraps.

1.00 PM

After lunch, I have a meeting with a member of my team.

It was a nice day so we took the meeting outside on the deck to soak up both the sun and the view.

3.30 PM

My afternoon consists of working on some strategy decks for customers and a few more meetings. At 3.30 pm I hit my mid-afternoon slump, so I hop down to the vending machine for my daily Coke Zero break. While on the way back to our desks, I chat with a fellow grad about the trivia night we’re organising on behalf of one of our business resource groups: YoPros (Young Professionals). Mastercard has nine business resource groups (BRGs) dedicated to promoting an inclusive culture. They are similar to university societies and are a great way to connect with new people and get involved. I found it incredibly valuable during my first few months at Mastercard.

5.30 PM

After work, I head to a pub for trivia with the grad cohort. We get together fortnightly one night after work which is great to catch up about what everyone’s up to both at work and outside of it.
