Culture at Mastercard Australia

9.5
9.5 rating for Culture, based on 23 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
Mastercard has an amazing company culture! Projects are very collaborative as they involve many different teams. During work, there are lots of events run by different business groups focusing on health, learning and development, and inclusivity. After work, there are also many activities for everyone to get involved, from social sports, volunteering or social events such as drinks and trivia.

MC really fosters a culture of decency and inclusion. From day one, I was welcomed into my team and have never felt intimidated to approach and connect with more senior employees (it is a flat structure organisation). The graduate program is very social, with plenty of events and networking opportunities year round!

Very open workspace, company has a wide range of events and 'cubs' for employees to join and attend both fun and educational events. Hierachy is almost irrelevant, all employees I have met have treated me exceptionally well.

The structure is very flat meaning you can get support and speak to senior team members without any barriers. We also have a great social culture with a lot of events both during and outside of work hours.

Everyone I've met has been nice and willing to have a conversation. Management makes effort to promote inclusiveness and is understanding of individual circumstances.

Culture is great, everyone is very friendly and easy to approach. Flat hierarchy so it is a close knit network, great for teamwork and very easy to approach management.

Culture: In the office Mastercard is very relaxed, I have meetings often with senior leaders and feel as though everyone is approachable and professional. I get given tasks via email and then essentially left alone to complete them (If you need help it's easy to ask for it, but I like working solo). This means you don't get micro-managed and I can just put some music on and get to it. The structure is quite flat and there isn't a big difference in how you get treated between the levels. What I mean is that if someone more junior speaks up at a meeting their opinion is taken on board as if they were more senior. After hours socializing is good between the Grads Cohorts however the age of most of the senior people prevents more often connection after hours as they mostly have families and need to get home etc .

Whilst there is a hierachy of seniority, practically it operates in a very flat manner, senior members of the team are very welcoming to ideas and thoughts and are very inclusive

Our culture globally aligns to our doing well by doing good mantra. I have not met any colleague who has ill-intentions. We are all in it togethe. One good example can be seen in our flat structure, such that not only can we leave our hotdesks and walk across the office to speak with our country manager, but importantly share feedback easily both downwards and importantly upwards. I personally have sessions with various directors, sharing what is working and not working for our grads as a collective. Historically, Mastercard Australia has skewed older in demographics. We are in our third year of our Australian graduate program (I was part of the first batch), and have been able to experience the cultural evolution. What initially lacked, was the collegial environment that graduates often yearn for after leaving university. With a three year young grad program now, Mastercard Aus has really developed a positive collegial environment in which we not only all bond extremely well, support each other on the day-to-day despite being all in different teams; but we also ensure we are celebrating each other's wins and successes throughout the week during non-official work drinks and dinner on Fridays or the weekend. As we are a global company, this extends cross-border. I have visited the Singapore office and been welcomed with open arms by my respective graduate cohort who took me our for lunch which is extremely humbling. I have also visited the London office and without knowing anyone initially, was taken out for drinks and shown the city following an intro from a Sydney-based London colleagues. Beyond this, we have various diversity and inclusion groups - eg. LGBTI+, mental/physical disabilities, Women Leadership Network, ethnic groups, and more. One which I currently chair is our Young Professionals group - all about connecting employees from all experience levels. What is clear to me is that Mastercard locally and globally is really investing in young talent, recognising that they are the future of our company.

Good open culture in the office with a small enough team in Australia that you feel like you know everyone. Quite a top heavy company that enables more junior staff to access senior leadership. Cohort of junior employees very social and interact outside of office hours.

The company culture is fast-paced, professional but also diverse/progressive and friendly. Lots of social events in and out of office hours. Lots of access to senior level staff when working on projects.

A great work-life balance. Some hierarchy exists but even higher managements are rather approachable. A big emphasis on team work.

Great culture, in the D&S team the hierarchy is flat and open communication and teamwork is valued and practiced well. Very respectful of work life balance. A bit top heavy in Australia, but is changing with each subsequent graduate intake

The company culture in the team is improving after a recent merge of teams. Increased team activities and team meetings has allowed for the team to be more aligned. The company itself provides townhalls and other 'company' updates but many social things have stopped since Covid and not been picked up. After hours, the grads at work make a conscious effort to socialize on Friday night.

Everyone is well respected in the office, the culture is strongly collaborative both in and out of office hours.

Structure and hierarchy - while levels of hierarchy @ mastercard gives rise to irritatingly many layers of red tape & bureaucracy, hierarchy is almost never a concern in day-to-day work and general social interactions (inside + outside the office) Team is great, people are great.
