The Omega Healthcare Management Services story

Omega Healthcare was founded in 2004 by partners Gopi Natajaran (now the company’s CEO) and Anurag Mehta, with a vision of being an international leader and provider of knowledge process outsourcing and health care business services. The organization began its operations in Bengaluru and today has a presence in Trichy, Bhimavaram, and Chennai in India, as well as Cebu and Manila in the Philippines.

In the beginning, the company built a joint venture with the Manipal group and another US entity. In 2005, the partners were able to raise a bridge loan and buy out both joint venture companies’ shares.

Omega Healthcare provides three distinct services to its clients. The medical coding service is employed by a team of over 3,000 workers. It involves investigating patient complaints, reviewing medical charts, inspecting insurance information, and figuring out how to assign codes that will drive reimbursement from the insurance company. For this division, Omega Healthcare recruits life science graduates or graduates with a pharmacy or biochemistry background. For its data management activity, the company requires workers with typing skills but minimal analytical skills.

The accounts receivable service involves making calls to insurance companies and patients for money collection. This job requires workers with good English skills. The critical care management service is implemented by Filipino nurses who make calls to patients and discuss care measures to undertake post-discharge.

Omega Healthcare processes millions of transactions on a daily basis with almost 12,500 employees in 2017 and mostly US clients. The company is planning to branch out into other geographies like UAE and Australia and double its revenues in 2020 while looking for more technologies to augment its services.

The recruitment process

The recruitment process varies from role to role. Expect telephone interviews to gauge English skills and timed aptitude tests which may include mathematics, anatomy, physiology, science and technology affairs, IQ test, and personality test. One-on-one interviews may be conducted by HR representatives or department managers.

Remuneration

Low salary may be a problem, especially for entry-level roles. Benefits may include health insurance, monthly performance incentives, and free certification courses.

The culture

Much praise has been given to the company’s ‘friendly’ environment with ‘supportive’ management that’s keen on supporting new recruits.

Social contributions

Launched in 2017, Omega Healthcare's CSR platform is Community Connect. Through this initiative, the company focuses on corporate giving and volunteering.

The company's CSR goals are as follows: Enhance education through quality primary education; Improve maternal health and reduce child mortality by sensitising communities, providing emergency transportation, enhancing secondary level care, and reaching vulnerable communities; Promote healthcare through awareness health programmes and helping combat HIV, AIDS, malaria, and other diseases, as well as promoting gender equality.

The vibe of the place

Reviews often describe Omega Healthcare as a 'great starting point for freshers in the healthcare industry' because of its extensive training, job security, and 'friendly' environment.
