Hannah Nguyen

Catch up with one of my mentors. We discuss how I’m settling in, the project I’m working on, and any advice they may have. I’m lucky to have two mentors—one from Technology, and the other from Finance.

6.30 AM

Each morning my alarm wakes me up at 6.00 am and each morning, without fail, I hit snooze until 6.30 am. I leave my cosy bed to get ready for work, which consists of picking an outfit, preparing snacks, and feeding my pet rabbit before I leave. If it’s a Friday, it’s casual dress day.

7.30 AM

I’m ready to leave the house and head to the nearest train station. I usually catch the 7.49 am train to the city every day. I have days where I can work from home, but I’d rather be in the office as it’s easier to meet new people and ask for help. Plus, I like the office space and enjoy the commute—I use the time to listen to music or podcasts, which puts me in a good mood and starts my day.

8.30 AM

I arrive in the city, and according to Google map, it takes ten minutes to walk to the office. I’m a fast walker so it usually takes less than that. So, I’m in the office by 8.40 am which allows me to pick my hot desk for the day and unwind.

The other Technology graduate also arrives early to work, so we’d catch up in the morning and talk about our weekend and work. As you can see, Matt is very interested in what I’m saying.

9.00 AM

This is my time to reply to emails and schedule my day.  I was enrolled on a course paid for by RACV, so I use the time in the morning to study for the exam. The course is about ITIL 4 which is the latest version of the IT service management (ITSM) best practice framework.

Catch up with one of my mentors. We discuss how I’m settling in, the project I’m working on, and any advice they may have. I’m lucky to have two mentors—one from Technology, and the other from Finance. We usually catch up in person if we’re both in the office, but today we had our meeting online as they were working from home.

12.00 PM

Lunchtime! I usually have lunch with other graduate trainees. Around our building is an abundance of food spots, so we have no trouble finding something to eat. My favourite spots so far are Namoo, Aki Sushi, B3 and the Galleria. The Galleria is a five-minute walk from where we are and consists of retail shops and a spacious food court. How am I supposed to save money when there is still so much to explore and try!

1.00 PM

I am currently working on an ongoing project that aims to uplift Configuration Management at RACV. I’ve spent the past few weeks interviewing stakeholders via Microsoft Teams, documenting meetings, and conducting my own research and analysis. Today I will be preparing a presentation to summarise my findings and recommendations to present to my manager.

3.00 PM

Sitting for extended periods of time is not good for your health, so I like to have a brisk walk around the building just to get my blood flowing and take advantage of the warm weather. Then it’s back to work!

5.00 PM

Home time! If it’s a Friday, I typically head down to Bourke Street Green with my graduate cohort for some drinks and hot chips. If not, I head home and enjoy “me” time on the train and continue the podcast I was listening to earlier. But before going home, if it’s a hot day, we grab ice cream at Piccolina Gelateria.

6.00 PM

I get home around this time. I like to stay active, so after dinner and relaxing for a bit, I blast my favourite songs and run on the treadmill for at least half an hour. Then I take a shower and get ready for bed.

10.30 PM

I’m in bed nice and early for tomorrow!
