Andreas Demetriou

Don’t give up the things you love doing, get involved in extracurriculars or a hobby, life is not all about studying and work. Take the time to appreciate the little things.

5.45 AM

Woken up by the kisses of Steve the dog; hungry and needing to be let outside.

6.00 AM

Getting ready for work and family morning meal prep with my wife.

7.30 AM

The first one is at work. Great way to prepare me before the hustle and bustle of the day. We’ve just moved into our new office and are settling in. I spy some boxes that still need unpacking and put that at the top of my to-do list.

7.45 AM

Oats and a coffee (breakfast of champions)…wait the sink isn’t connected yet, no water. Put that one on the back burner for now and check some emails.

8.00 AM

Start packing away those boxes I saw earlier. We sure do have a lot of binders and pens. The only problem is deciding which new tambour units to use first! So much space.

9.00 AM

As the team starts rolling in priorities shift to a quick brew. A few of us duck downstairs to the coffee shop for a cup and chat. Dan’s Shout.

9.30 AM

It’s that time of the month to claim expenses so I start digging through my bag and drawer for those pesky servo coffee/lunch receipts you accumulate when out on a site visit and start filling out my form.

10.00 AM

Headphones in and start closing out defects from our new office fit out to reissue back to our builder before our weekly meeting this afternoon and review security shop drawings on a project for a major data centre provider.

12.30 PM

Meeting with the senior consultant and adjacent desk buddy on a new project that will be getting involved with.

1.15 PM

Lunch. Signature dish today; ham, cheese and tomato toasties in the sandwich press.

1.45 PM

By now the speaker has been working overtime pumping 80’s hits and it's time to crunch out a few site reports from inspections at major data centre sites and a government office space. However, as is common as a consultant you get hit with curveballs and need to adapt to what comes your way at any given time. As I am getting through the first of my reports I receive an email regarding an urgent review of a document with high priority for a small fit-out project which needed to be addressed ASAP.

3.00 PM

Every Tuesday since our office fit-out started, we have a meeting with the builder to discuss design issues and site progress. This week we are trying to close out defect items from construction and project completion.

4.00 PM

Finally, back to those site reports.

5.00 PM

That’s a wrap. Time to head home and catch a train that hasn’t been cancelled.
