Career prospects

Career opportunities at Vallibel One can be both scarce and abundant—it really depends on which of the companies you’re looking to work for. Most job openings cater specifically to grads with degrees in finance, marketing, and other business fields—though there are jobs occasionally available to physical sciences, IT, and computer science majors.

Remuneration

Remuneration packages at Vallibel One and its subsidiaries are competitive compared to job salary ranges in Sri Lanka. Physical science majors can earn an average annual salary of around LKR 864k (USD 4,774) as an R&D executive. The highest-paying positions at the company and its subsidiaries are either finance or engineering related. For instance, a business development engineer with the company can earn an annual salary of LKR 1.2m to 2.2m (USD 6,631 to 12,158), while a showroom manager/supervisor can make a yearly salary of anywhere from LKR 696k to 2.4m (USD 3,846 to 13,263).

The culture

Despite the sheer size of the company, there is no information regarding the culture within the walls of Vallibel One. Though, the company does mention a few things about itself, such as, ‘we are a team of thinkers, shapers, innovators and spearheads; we garner strength from our diversity and seek opportunity from everything around us.’ Whether or not these claims hold up when you become a part of their team is entirely unknown.

Social contributions

The majority of Vallibel One’s investments are in manufacturing or plantation companies, which inevitably produce more pollutants than other industries. However, they do make an effort to keep their business practices ethical and sustainably sound. The company regularly donates funds to the ‘upliftment of maternal and child health and nutrition in the plantation sector,’  preschool hygiene programs, and other community-based projects.

In addition to recycling over 10,000 MT of their raw materials annually, the company regularly monitors its carbon footprint and adopts sustainable practices in the plantation sector, including crop diversification, zero deforestation, and habitat enrichment. Their most notable environmental conservation effort is their contribution to the ‘Mission Thuru Wawamu, 50-50 Thousand’ project. The primary goal of the project is to grow and maintain 50,000 trees by the company’s 50th Anniversary.

General vibe of the place

Vallibel One is rich with opportunities for primarily business, finance, engineering, IT and computer science graduates. The company is quite large, yet all of the claims regarding the workplace culture come directly from the company itself—there are no external sources from past or current employees to verify this. The general vibe of the place? An exceptionally large company with ample opportunity for career advancement across its many subsidiaries, with a workplace environment, masked behind a shroud of mystery.
