The company’s commitment to not only safety but to each employee makes me personally feel appreciated.

What team do you work in and what are they responsible for?

I work in the New Energies team. We are responsible for different projects relating to, as our name suggests, New Energies. This includes construction of the New Energies Service Station at the Geelong Energy Hub, with hydrogen refuelling and EV charging for heavy road transport. This project facilitates lower-emission solutions for the heavy vehicle transport segment, where we are an early mover. Additionally, we also are examining value creating opportunities in EV charging, battery storage and rooftop solar enabled by the acquisition of Coles Express convenience business. These technologies are at varying stages of adoption and commercialisation, and we see them as facilitating the best pathway to providing both the market and our customers with the viable lower-carbon solutions required in the medium to long term.

What tips can you share with prospective graduates going through the application or recruitment process with us?

It is important to understand the direction and values of the company. There is a large emphasis on certain aspects such as safety, which it would be great to be across. Looking through the website to know upcoming projects in your prospective area will ensure that you come to the assessment and interview prepared, should you be asked a questions on this. I also believe that having a think about why it is in particular that you want to work for Viva Energy is a good idea, the company makes a great effort to provide development opportunities, and therefore having some direction will be great.

What have been some highlights of the Graduate Program?

The main highlights so far for me personally have been the work I have been doing, and the companies approach while at work. In terms of the work, I have found it quite fulfilling and it has been challenging yet fair. I have also learnt a lot about the industry through my time here so far, and I think that that getting this understanding is important for development, especially in the early stages of your career. The company’s commitment to not only safety, but to each employee makes me personally feel appreciated. Whether that be because someone went out of their way to make time for me, or the proactive and positive safety culture that you experience when on site, it conveys this feeling that you are valued as a team member.
