A common saying in the corporate world is “It’s not what you know, but who you know”. Use your time as a grad (and beyond!) to network with people and create your personal brand, you never know when a relationship may prove advantageous.

My advice would be to explore various fields, figure out your interests and not have a rigid mindset, basically keep your options open.

In search for an opportunity to combine her interests in finance and accounting, Gemma McGinness’ Co-Op internship with Macquarie proved a career in financial services was right for her. Although her first year on the Graduate Program, working across consulting and data teams in Macquarie’s Financial Management Group, has been done in a primarily remote-working setting, it hasn’t stopped her from grasping opportunities; extending her skills in coding and taking part in the first ever remote year end process project.

I feel extremely lucky to be working with such hardworking people who genuinely want to see me succeed.  ANZ has a great praise culture – we really value calling out those who are doing a fantastic job (and who doesn’t like being appreciated for the work that you do?!)
