The types of tasks I enjoy the most are when I’m collaborating with clients to achieve great outcomes, the best feeling is getting a resource consent granted with minimal further requests of information from council.

One of the important things is to understand the way people and environments interconnect and to have the willingness to learn.

Aspects of internal business processes are things that my degree has given me background on, so I have supplemented my role, but it’s been more of a learning experience so far.

Daily work is quite varied – clients can range from large self-insurers to overseas insurance start-ups to local listed insurers.

I really enjoy stepping outside of my area of expertise and learning about what other disciplines do (for example surveying or fire engineering). The more I learn about other areas, the better I am at seeing a project as a whole product rather than just my civil design elements.

It is very exciting to be involved in the process of unfolding and resolving the complexity of a project so as to turn it from a fabulous idea into an amazing reality.
