The opportunity to work on large projects with experts from different fields to deliver a project that serves the community. It is fascinating to follow these projects from their inception, overcome any challenges that arise, and witness their progress.

The easiest path may not always be the most exciting. If you’re fortunate enough to have free electives, make them count!

The construction industry was out of my comfort zone when I first started (and a little now, I’m still learning) so most of the experiences I have had here are a first for me!

The coolest thing about my job is working in an inclusive and collaborative environment. Everyone shares the same vision and there is always professional growth.

The types of tasks I enjoy the most are when I’m collaborating with clients to achieve great outcomes, the best feeling is getting a resource consent granted with minimal further requests of information from council.

A balanced lifestyle is the key to success. Work hard but also take some time to hang out with friends, play with your pet or go for a run. 

As a structural engineer, I am responsible for the safety of people who are the end users of my designs.

If I could offer some advice to grads, I’d suggest they try everything and say yes to every opportunity — you never know where you may end up!
