Disability Support at Department of Health and Aged Care

The Disability and Carers’ Network (DCN) works for an inclusive and accessible workplace for people with disability or caring responsibilities.

The department is a proud member of the Australian Network on Disability (AND), a national, membership-based, for-purpose organisation that assists Health to increase our disability confidence, engagement and action.

Their vision is for Health to become the employer of choice for people with disability and carers. They provide a vital contribution to inclusion initiatives and acknowledgement of days of significance such as National Carers Week, the International Day of People with Disability, and represent staff from a Disability and those with Carers responsibilities at the National Staff Participation Forum (NSPF).

The Accessibility Action Plan 2016-2019 (AAP) outlines how the department works towards its goal to make Health an employer of choice for people with disability and those who care for people with disability. We will align future initiatives with the whole-of-government APS Disability Employment Strategy 2020-2025.

Our commitment to supporting staff includes several policies:

  • Workplace Adjustment Policy and Guidelines
  • Workplace Adjustment Passport
  • Flexible Working Arrangements
  • Home Based Work Guidelines
  • Early Intervention
  • Domestic and Family Violence
  • Fitness for Duty
  • Workplace Rehabilitation.
