Nestle has an ancient history that can be traced back to 1866 when a couple of Swiss companies merged to form a company that will be known today as Nestle. In 1867, Henri Nestle manufactured a baby food product which gained commercial success in the market. In 1905, Henri Nestle’s company agreed to a merger deal with an Anglo-Swiss condensed milk manufacturer to form Nestle & Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk. With time, the new firm grew and started international expansion. In 1977, this company rebranded to the name it currently uses.
The firm struck gold during the First World War because it led to a massive demand from several countries for dairy products. Some of these countries were active in the war, and Nestle had factories in many of them. The great demand led to a surge in production for Nestle. The Second World War had a different effect, but the company bounced back on its fortunes when it produced and introduced Nescafe, an instant coffee drink that became a mainstay for Americans.
