The New Balance Athletics Story

New Balance Athletics was founded by William J. Riley, an Irish immigrant in 1906. In the early years of New Balance’s formation, it focused on manufacturing arch support and shoe fitting accessories.

Arthur Hall and William Riley began to do business in 1927, eventually becoming business partners seven years later. The company eventually became known as New Balance Athletic Shoe Company and was sold to Eleanor and Paul Kidd in 1956.

In the early 70s, the company recorded its fair share of stagnation featuring just six workers making 30 shoe pairs daily and marketing via word-of-mouth. Jim Davis bought the company in 1972 and the company saw exceptional growth in products and customers.

In 2015, the company entered the football market through Warrior Sports. They entered mainstream football support through its sponsorship of the top football team, Liverpool. They also entered the baseball market through the sponsorship of Mets in 2018.

Over a century after its creation, New Balance continues to remain a top brand posing a unique identity and becoming a truly global brand.

These interviews are a relaxing experience and offer applicants an opportunity to elaborate on their work history.

After the phone interviews, selected applicants are invited for an in-person interview. Questions about the interviews are also asked allowing applicants to show how well they’d fit into the role.

Controversies

New Balance Athletics has seen its fair share of controversies but probably its most controversial one is its ties with white supremacists.

Following the victory of Donal Trump, the Vice President of the company openly stated that electing Donald Trump would help improve their trade ties. Donald Trump at the time was infamous and was called a white supremacist by many.

This open support for the President a few hours after his victory sparked public outrage with several loyal customers cutting ties with the popular brand.

Following the massive outrage, the company had to clarify its remarks addressing its desire to continue competitive production in the United States.
