I never thought I'd work at a household name like Unilever – from growing up with brands like Paddle Pop and Dove to now contributing to their success, it truly feels that life has come full circle.

A high effort grade is more important than an A+.

Anything from international negotiations, running seminars, inputting into policy, writing briefings, creating databases and analytical tools, being part of committees and consultation meetings – it’s all so diverse and this is the part of my job I love the most.

The coolest thing about this job is the real-life experience. For me is it not a specific task that I have enjoyed the most, it is the new sense of professionalism I have gained.

Don’t discount your other work experiences that aren’t corporate-based – focus on the skills they’ve given you instead, these soft skills are always transferrable and relevant.

My role is to support and manage this process for them. It ranges from supplier management, to commercial negotiations, to finalising the contract with our legal team.

I chose to apply for BAT for the career opportunities that BAT can provide, but also the amazing perks that we have access to. It’s a global FMCG company with a bit of a twist that really prioritised the development of their people.

Every rotation came with a sense of surprise and anticipation. I could have a good guess at what was in store for me, but with a new team and sometimes even a new location, I was faced with new experiences and more opportunities to learn.
