Angus MacGregor

I was immediately interested in Australia Post after reading about how invested in their graduates they were, and how flexible the program was.

What's your background?

I grew up in Far North Queensland, about an hour inland of Cairns in a small town called Tolga. At 18 I made the move to Melbourne to complete a Commerce and Science double degree.

Why did you decide to apply for the graduate program?

When it came time to apply for graduate roles, I had no idea where to start. There were so many different programs and I didn’t have a clear view of exactly what career path I wanted to follow. I was immediately interested in Australia Post after reading about how invested in their graduates they were, and how flexible the program was. As I got further into the selection process, I heard more and more about how great the culture was at Australia Post, and how much people enjoyed working there. It wasn’t long before I decided this was where I wanted to start my career.

What business units have you worked in / are you currently working in and where have you completed your rotations?

I’m currently in my third rotation, working as a commercial analyst in a relatively new area of the business called Fulfilio. It’s an exciting area that’s constantly throwing up new challenges. Previously I did a rotation in the Tax team, and in Commercial Advisory.

What projects have you been a part of that you really enjoyed working on?

For Tax, I spent most of my time doing research and analysis for the Fringe Benefits Tax Return, where I helped secure a saving of over $700,000. I also helped in the implementation of new processes for fleet vehicles and car parking to help secure more savings in the future.

In Commercial Advisory, I built on the Corporate Finance skills I gained through study. This included building financial models for future initiatives and evaluating the profitability of potential projects.

What do you like about working at Australia Post?

Over my 18 months here, what’s stuck with me most is how supportive everyone is. All 3 of the teams I’ve worked in have been so welcoming, patient, and encouraging. It makes coming into work every day so much easier.
